Grey Phoenix
The Grey Phoenix is the national symbol and mythological guardian of Phoenicia. It is unknown who the Grey Phoenix was or whether the Grey Phoenix was male or female, for convenience sake, this article will refer to them as a male.
History[edit | edit source]
During the Solstern Wars, the Solsterns were rapidly trying to expand into the 3rd and 4th ring and quickly arrived on Phoenicia. The independent system's orbital and planetary defenses were no match for the Solstern's far advanced military, and within weeks the planetary capital fell, with citizens and military forces alike evacuating en masse to the surrounding countryside.
However, as the invading Solstern force began to occupy the city, their forces came under the relentless assault of a guerilla warrior calling himself the Grey Phoenix. His attacks were savage, ruthless and relentless. He would attack Solstern forces all over the city at any time of day or night, completely randomly. He would use any weapon at his disposal, almost exclusively those he took from the Solstern forces he ambushed and killed, be it sniper rifles, mines, explosives, anti tank or anti air weapons.
On multiple occasions, the Solstern forces reported direct hits with artillery on his location, even confirmed kills, but the Grey Phoenix would simply pop up elsewhere unexpectedly and claim more Solstern lives.
His alleged kills according to Solstern Reports from the time include:
- 2,120 Troops
- 17 Air Superiority Fighters
- 15 Aerial weapon platforms and transports
- 83 Tanks
- 39 Artillery systems
- 216 Armored Ground Transports
- 8 Boats
- 15 Military Vehicles
- 76 Munition Trucks
- 17 UAVs
- 69 AA Vehicles
- 27 Special Equipment
In the end, the Solstern Army became so preoccupied with holding the Capital city, that it was completely unable to make progress in other parts of the planets. Deciding to cut their losses, the Solsterns instead declared that if the Grey Phoenix would not surrender immediately, they would bomb the capital city to Oblivion.
The Grey Phoenix's response was to blast the song "Welcome to the Black Parade" on every speaker and radio frequency in the city, reaching out to the Solstern Fleet and climbing on the tallest building, holding his arms wide as if to dare the Solsterns to commence the bombing.
They did.
Though his body was never located in the rubble, he was confirmed to still be standing on top of the tallest building when the bombing commenced. The entire city turned into a crater. Even if the bombing didn't kill the Grey Phoenix, the collapse of the building he was on would have.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
The Grey Phoenix's war against the Solsterns made it impossible for the Solsterns to take over the planet with the fleet they had originally intended to. The delays and logistical setbacks he caused forced the Solsterns to wait for reinforcements, which arrived only a day before the King of Swords defeated Eidolon, ending the war altogether.
For his noble fight and sacrifice against the Solsterns, the Grey Phoenix became the planetary symbol for Phoenicia and the song "Welcome to the Black Parade" becoming their national anthem. It is the first planet to pick a modern song as a national anthem.
The band who performed the time had this to say, "What an absolute unit. Knowing our song inspired such a badass is beyond words." The Band later wrote the song "Bulletproof Heart" in honor of the Grey Phoenix.
