Oran Legionnaire Corps
The Oran Legionnaire Corps is the branch of the Oran Armed Forces in charge of training and maintaining an all purpose mercenary force to protect Mahoran assets outside of Mahoran space (this does not include embassies, which are protected by the Oran Republican Guard ).
Completion of a certain amount of tours of duty in the Oran Legionnaire Corps guarantees Oran Citizenship and unlike regular immigration, grants a non-birth citizen voting rights (but not candidacy rights) in Oran elections. In addition, OLC veterans are eligible for government employment.
History[edit | edit source]
The Oran Republic was very quick to adopt the mercenary army model from the Gassanoks, however, lacking the vast finances to compensate their mercenaries to maintain their loyalties, they instead decided to target potential immigrants and offering up significant benefits to immigrants gaining citizenship through the OLC.
As a result, non-OLC immigration rates dropped sharply, only leaving high quality, educated immigrants to take that route, while the uneducated and unskilled preferred to join the OLC for the benefits and income.
Enlistment[edit | edit source]
When an enlistment candidate presents themselves to the Legionnaire Corps they are carefully screened and an individual contract is offered to the enlister based on their history and their risk factor. The higher the risk, or the more problematic the history, the more tours of duties need to be completed before citizenship is granted.
In exceptional cases, a candidate may have to agree to a complete memory wipe in order to enlist. This has been granted special approval by the Council, with the condition that all such candidates must be reported and approved by the Council Security Office beforehand.
