The Scoi (Sciuridae Sapien) are a species native to Marion Prime. They are sapient squirrel-like beings that reside in the local Ironwood trees.
History[edit | edit source]
The Scoi were generally a peace loving tribal society, with each tribe being members of and named after their home tree. When the Solsterns installed the Marioni on Marion Prime, the Marioni adopted the Scoi as scouts, foragers and laborers. This relationship later evolved into respectful co-existence, with Scoi families usually living alongside Marioni families within the same household.
The Scoi have had no interest in leaving their homeworld, and having reached harmony with their surroundings, lack ambition to explore the galaxy, being perfectly content to serve their masters and enjoy their lives as they are.
Biology[edit | edit source]
The Scoi, for all intents and purposes are large and sapient squirrels, with slightly larger and more developed hands than their feral counterparts. Their cranium is also slightly larger, to accommodate their pre-frontal cortex, but they retain the overall shape.
They maintain the biology of their feral ancestors in all ways of life, other than their higher cognition and advanced manipulation capabilities.
Behavior[edit | edit source]
The Scoi are peaceful, energetic and have a great curiosity when it comes to their home planet and their masters. This natural curiosity does not extend outside of this scope and the Scoi lack ambition in any field that does not directly benefit their families, their tree, or their masters.
Scoi Markings[edit | edit source]
At their earliest stages of development, prior to growing fur, Scoi infants are treated with special substances secreted from their home tree. These substances, when applied, permanently change the color of the Scoi's fur where it was applied. As such, Scoi "tribes" often "tattoo" their young this way, tracing the various lines and contours of their home tree onto their children resulting in tribal markings on their fur. This makes it easy for tribe members to recognize members of their own tribe, or other tribes and even within families, as each mark their infants by the markings on the level of the tree they live in.
Language[edit | edit source]
The Scoi language is composed of high frequency chitters, squeaks and clicks. The Scoi's communication with the Marioni is wholly unique, in that they both learn both the Scoi and Marioni languages. Though neither is capable of replicating the other's language, both can still communicate in their own language with each other, as they both understand each other's languages.
