Requia Prime is the homeworld of the Requian species and capital of the Democratic State of Requia. It is an oceanic planet with lower than average landmass.

Geography[edit | edit source]

As Requia Prime is made out of 95% Ocean with only one sub continent above the surface and many islands its geography is rather unique and mostly divided vertically by the layers of its oceans.

The Subcontinent of Acrorequia[edit | edit source]

This subcontinent is where Requia Prime’s giant metropolis lies, all of the foreign businesses operate in this sub continent above the ocean. This metropolis is divided into multiple sections. Distinct among them are:

The Government Area[edit | edit source]

Where the government and municipalities operate, this area has a lot of very stylized buildings with a very bureaucratic look to them. This particular architectural style originated from the Goratons, but because it is such a successful combination of authoritarianism and aesthetics the Grethions embraced it happily.

Downtown[edit | edit source]

The center of business in Acrorequia, it is a glowing mishmash of stores, malls, huge fish markets (and night markets) and big corporate skyscrapers with bright advertisements playing on massive screens on them. All the best stores, bars, restaurants, arcades (requians love arcades), concert halls, clubs and such are all there.

Garden District[edit | edit source]

The Garden District in its entirety is just one huge national park containing several zoos, a stone garden containing rare rocks from all over the galaxy, hiking trails, a big river you can swim in and many grill and picnic areas and even a man-made mountain to climb.

Red Light District[edit | edit source]

In the Red Light District, requians and tourists can find adult entertainment such as prostitutes, brothels, strip bars, peep shows, adult movie theatres and lewd hotels. Requians are very open about all matters regarding sex, so it is common to see prostitutes work out in the open public, or have pornography playing on giant screens. The district itself is actually right next to the spaceport.

Culture District[edit | edit source]

Perhaps the most mundane and ordinary district in Acrorequia, it contains requian culture clubs, museums, art galleries, libraries, oceanariums etc.

Beach Strip[edit | edit source]

The beach strip is one massive strip of shore surrounding the sub-continent all around, it is here that the Requian Breeding Festival, a time honored tradition where single (and sometimes partnered) requians enter a mating frenzy and swim up to the shore to procreate. During the rest of the year it is mostly for vacationing tourists for swimming, diving, boating and so on. The city continues past the beach strip and into the water, however, the coral reefs and area right against the beach is preserved to support the sea life and the city only continues a few kilometers out into the water. The lights under and over the water can be easily seen from shore.

The Rhodesian Isles[edit | edit source]

The Rhodesian Isles have been populated since ancient times by a different kind of Requians. These Requians found life above water most interesting and from before recorded history set their settlements on the isles, using boats to transport people and goods between them and forming city states. These Requians, mostly cut off from their underwater cousins, developed their own unique culture and religion. It is believed that the requian written language originated there, as well as modern spoken Requian. Unlike Underwater Requians, who don’t have an official religion of sort, the Rhodesian Requians believed in different “Kings” who reigned over Requia Prime and the space around it. The Sun King, Ocean King, Storm King and the Unseen King for example.

Under The Ocean[edit | edit source]

The Sunlight Zone[edit | edit source]

The Sunlight Zone is where the vast population of requians live and work. Here is the most well lit and active layer of the ocean on Requia Prime. The “sunken continents” of Requia Prime allow this zone to easily be habitable around the globe and coral farms, kelp farms, sea life farms and other kinds of ocean agriculture are most frequent here. Most requian cities also exist in this layer, the bigger ones even have skyscrapers that emerge above the ocean and with a beautiful view of the ocean’s surface and the sky.

Most energy for this zone is harvested through hydrodynamic buoys, solar buoys and wind blades.

Here you can find the Statue Garden of Requia Prime, where all Patrons Major or Minor are celebrated in the form of statues sculpted in their liking as well as the Domes of Despair formerly belonging to Korax the Serpent Rider.

The Twilight Zone[edit | edit source]

This area receives significantly less sunlight than the Sunlight zone and the light is very faint. Temperature changes the greatest in this zone, as distance from the surface dramatically decreases the temperature.

Because of the lack of light, it is within this zone that bioluminescence begins to appear on life. The eyes on the fishes are larger and generally upward directed, most likely to see silhouettes of other animals (for food) against the dim light. Here is where the Requian Industrial sector thrives. Great underwater craft halls and factories, operating in the dim light and away from most of the requian population and sea life.

The Midnight Zone[edit | edit source]

The only light at this depth (or lower) is that coming directly off of bioluminescent sea life. The temperature here is mostly constant at a chilling 4°C. This depth is mostly empty, there are no plants as there is no sun, only sponges. Sea life is composed only of filter feeders, grazers and predators, most of which are significantly larger than those in the layers above.

The Abyssal Zone[edit | edit source]

Also known as simply “The Abyss” was once sacred to the Requians, even descending to this depth for most Requians would be lethal, the pressure, lack of sunlight and the cold would kill most half way through the Midnight Zone. But here lived the Leviathans, swarms of massive sea serpents worshipped by Requians all around the globe and of course, the home of their carers, the Abyssal Requians.

Nowadays, the Leviathans have been driven further below, the Abyss has become littered with hydrothermal power plants, providing electricity to factories and cities above, gathering heat from hydrothermal vents. By law, most vents remain unoccupied and untapped, as to allow sea life to flourish there still. The skeletons of Leviathans

The Hadal Zone[edit | edit source]

This zone is the deepest in Requia Prime, named after the Rhodesian Requian’s underworld (or king of such). Here lay the Great Leviathans, the oldest of Leviathan Kind, believed to not only be powerful, but also sentient. Nothing else lives down here. Only Abyssal Requians dare venture into these waters to care for the last Great Leviathan, Telos.
